World Series Final Game Attracts 51M Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51M watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US average was 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
