Cars in German Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Authorities reported they were alerted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.

A high-ranking representative said the attack left him without words and had to be resolved quickly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
